Business travellers’ ultimate 72-hour guide to South Bank in Brisbane

If you're on your way to Brisbane for a conference, you might find yourself at South Bank in the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The area surrounding the centre is a hive of cultural activity where you'll find world-class galleries, the Queensland Museum and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Also renowned as a gastronomic heartland, you'll stumble upon premier restaurants, cafes and bars.

To help you make the most of your delegate stay, we've whipped up a 72-hour itinerary of must-do activities to squeeze in between conference commitments.

Day 1

Morning

Gauge Cafe

Fuel up for the day with help from Gauge Cafe on Grey St – but don't turn up expecting your standard eggs benny. The menu is littered with quirky breakfast dishes such as the crowd favourite black garlic bread with brown butter and burnt vanilla.

Noon

You've made it halfway through your first conference day and we expect you're famished. Grab your delegate mates and hit Bourbon Street for lunch, a quick seven-minute walk from the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Bourbon Street has brought a slice of New Orleans to Brisbane and you'll find American delights such as sweet potato pie and buttermilk fried southern chicken. There is also an express lunch menu if you're short on time and need to hurry back to your convention.

Night

Beccofino Pizza

On the corner of Grey St and Fish Lane you'll find the incredibly popular Julius Pizzeria. Choose from wood-fired pizza or a bowl of pasta washed down with a glass of chianti.

You'll want to leave room for more when you see the dessert options at Cowch, just a stroll down the road. Head to the make-your-own ice-cream station to construct a sweet piece of heaven and, of course, indulge in a lavish Choclatini.

Walk off all your hard work (and food) with a stroll along the Brisbane River and through South Bank's parklands.

Day 2

Morning

After a glorious night of indulgence, give yourself the health kick your body needs with a nutritious and organic acai bowl at Kiss the Berry.

Noon

For a feast of the senses, head to the Gallery of Modern Art, just 150m from the Queensland Art Gallery and a quick stroll from the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. Together these attractions are affectionately known as QAGOMA and are home to more than 16,000 artworks from Australia and around the world.

Late afternoon

After a busy day, the hotel pool probably beckons, but take the chance to have a dip at Streets Beach, the only beach in Australia that's smack bang in the middle of a city. Enjoying the relaxed vibes? Keep them coming with a bevvy or two at one of South Bank's many boisterous bars. Tipplers Tap is a top spot for a craft beer, or head to Hop and Pickle for a few of the more classic brews.

Night

Stokehouse Q South Bank

Take advantage of the breezy riverside location and book a table at Stokehouse Q. A buzzing atmosphere makes Stokehouse Q a top candidate for business meetings, or if you're looking to unwind solo after a long conference day, the more relaxed and casual Stoke Bar has a stellar drinks list and flexible food options.

Day 3

Morning

Begin your day at Olio Cafe for a strong-yet-silky coffee and breakfast, conveniently located within the Brisbane Exhibition & Conference Centre.

Noon

Down a decadent pick-me-up at the always-popular Chester Street Bakery. But beware – you might also be swayed to tuck into something a little more devilish such as Nutella Lasagne or a slice of Oreo-Crusted Unicorn Cream Pie.

Night

Bacchus

For your final night in Brisbane we recommend a night of style and sophistication with dinner and a show. Multi-award-winning Bacchus will have you captivated with modern Australian creations and an extensive wine list.

Armed with your pre-booked ticket, head along Grey St until you reach Queensland Performing Arts Centre (see here for QPAC booking options).

Mister Fitz

If you're ready to keep the good times rolling post-show, pay a visit to Mister Fitz and he'll sort you out with the best ice-cream sandwich you'll ever sink your teeth into.

If you'd like more insights into everything to eat, see and do for delegates, as well as access exclusive deals, make sure you visit the South Bank Concierge.
