Meet a past winner: Vald Performance
Vald Performance is a Brisbane company that is leading the way globally in human measurement technology.
Founded out of research from Queensland University of Technology in 2015, Vald Performance makes laboratory-grade human testing equipment for use in the field. It’s suite of innovative systems provide unparalleled insights into human movement, performance and injury risk.
It is the company that developed the NordBord Hamstring Testing System and the GroinBar Hip Strength Testing System. Bolstering its system offering further, the HumanTrak Movement Analysis System and the ForceDecks Dual Force Plate System were also acquired and integrated under Vald Performance, to provide a comprehensive human measurement system.
CEO of Vald Performance, Laurie Malone, said Brisbane had the right climate for start-ups and recently the company had proudly opened its 1,100sqm global head office in Newstead.
“Vald Performance has had an excellent track record since receiving the ANZ Award for High-Growth Business Start-Up at the 2018 Lord Mayor’s Business Awards,” Mr Malone said.
“The support and recognition from local government has been fantastic and has given us the opportunity to show other Brisbane start-ups you can become a global leader in a competitive market – without leaving Brisbane.”
“With our new global HQ in Newstead, we are able to tap into the local network of talent through the strong start-up ecosystem and tertiary education systems, allowing us to continue to develop new technologies and products.”
“On top of this, the cost to setup facilities in inner-city Brisbane is a fraction of other global cities like LA or London, allowing us to keep our core talent local while still assembling our products in-house.”
Mr Malone said the Award had allowed Vald Performance to better service their growing global client base – with 80% of clients based outside of Australia.
“Our clients expect a personal touch, which isn’t always achievable when it involves a long-haul flight to meet with them,” Mr Malone explained.
“The award helped us establish a dedicated media room with proper video conferencing in our head office meaning we are able to quickly get in front of more clients in far more locations and still give a full presentation and demonstration of our products. This connection and personal delivery is essential when working with elite performance teams.
“The government support, access to well-educated talent, and the affordability of that talent and inner-city head office space that Brisbane offers can’t be underestimated – and now with a media room, we can do it all from the comfort of Brisbane.”
Nominations are now open for the 2019 Lord Mayor's Business Awards.
